A COM port is also known as the standard serial port that uses Recommended Standard 232 (RS-232). The USBTO232 is included with selected Maxim EV kits and EV systems that were originally designed for the PC COM port and later updated to also support the USB port.

The DS9090EVKIT# from Maxim Integrated Products is a 1-Wire® device evaluation system (EV system). It consists of a DS9490+ USB to 1-Wire®/iButton® adapter for PC connectivity, a DS9120P+ socket board with RJ11 cable and seven different 1-Wire® devices. This EV system provides the special hardware and software system to exercise the features of 1-Wire® devices with memory or PIO/switches.

The DS9490R# is a USB front with an RJ-11 attachment that allows for connecting the USB to iButtons or other sensors and loggers. iButtons® and other sensors can be missioned and data can be downloaded with this simple device. There are many uses for the DS9490, such as a key for security systems, a way to download iButton® data, and much more.
